BeWorks Showcases Groundbreaking Commitment to Accessibility and Inclusive Design in EV Charging at Shell StartUp Engine Demo Day

09-Nov-2023

London, UK, 08.11.2023 — BeWorks Automation, a cleantech engineering startup specialising in accessible Electric Vehicle (EV) charging solutions, stood out at the Shell StartUp Engine Demo Day, an event that showcased cutting-edge innovations in smart energy solutions. The Demo Day featured eight startups excelling in areas such as carbon capture storage & utilisation, hydrogen, and EV charging.

Empowering Innovations in Smart Energy

Shell StartUp Engine UK, a prestigious acceleration programme, plays a pivotal role in nurturing early to mid-stage energy startups, providing them with essential skills, connections, and industry insights. The programme focuses on fostering growth within the smart energy landscape by connecting startups with mentors and global experts from Shell.

BeWorks Emerges as a Standout

In the 2023 programme, centered around Hydrogen, Carbon capture, utilisation, and storage, and Electric Vehicle charging, BeWorks Automation rose as a standout among twenty startups, out of thousands of startup applications. After a rigorous selection process, the Selection Committee, comprised of Shell leaders and experts, chose eight startups across all three focus areas, including BeWorks in the EV charging category.

De-Risking Development with Shell's Support

Throughout the programme, BeWorks actively engaged with Shell mentors, benefiting from discussions on technical product development, regulations & compliance, and business development. The team collaborated closely with Shell UK Mobility team to conduct interactive focus group sessions within the Shell enABLE network, gaining insights into challenges related to existing EV charging infrastructure.

Proof-of-Value Projects and Real-World Insights

BeWorks implemented Proof-of-Value projects at Shell forecourts, interacting with existing Shell customers (EV drivers) and forecourt EV site staff workers (EV champions). This real-world engagement provided invaluable insights that helped BeWorks validate certain technical scenarios further addressing and shaping their prototyping efforts.

The Demo Day marked the culmination of these achievements as BeWorks addressed a diverse audience of investors, corporates, UK government officials, and partners.
